Customer Review: Does it really do what it says?
I got Net Nanny to test and see whether it really blocks "surprises" from teen and children. So, I set up the account with restricted access to the internet. The level was about 75% restricted. When I opened some sites, it was a surprise indeed. I was able to open Playboy.com with ease and navigate. On the other hand, my research group website was blocked and so was The Economist website!!

I am sure there are pop-ups and links on websites which can lead a child to sites like Playboy. They DO have the option of adding websites to their "restricted websites" page but Net Nanny has not done her homework if a well-known site like playboy is not blocked!! I wonder what other websites remain to be blocked.

Customer Review: TomTom Navigator 5 - Worth the Trouble for True Techies
The is a great product. It works beautifully with my Dell Axim x51v and a third party Bluetooth GPS locator. One of the best things about the TomTom Navigator 5 is that you can get real-time traffic updates through a bluetooth cell phone. It will even route you around traffic problems. To me real-tim traffic updates were on important factor in my decision and this one seems to have the best traffic system on the market. While TomTom Traffic is free (at least for now) you will need to pay for a decent cell phone data plan. I use Cingular and pay $20 a month for unlimited data.

On the downside, I must tell you that it takes lots of patience to install the software. And, it takes near saint-like patience to make it work with a cell phone. (I would never have been able to do it if it were not for the instructions found on sites like Aximsite.com) I nearly gave up. But, it was worth the trouble.

I am in sales and the TomTom Navigator 5 makes life so much easier. If you are considering a PDA, this makes more sense to me than buying a GPS-only device.
Customer Review: Map Activation? For a product I purchased?
The TomTom Navigator is a nice enough device, until you get to the Maps activation. The Maps activation? Why should I have to activate my maps if I have paid for the product? Good question, well, I activated these maps on one PDA, and within 2 weeks my PDA died and I had to obtain warranty service. Well, I decided that I would upgrade to a new device and then sell my old device when I got it back from the manufacturers (I tend to switch my PDA every 3-4 months anyway).

So I installed the maps on the new device and it asked me to activate. OK, I figure...no problem, I will be able to activate it 1...2...3 because after all, only I have the activation card/code. No such luck, TomTom wants PROOF that I have brought a new device? what kind of nonsense is that? What if I lost my PDA in 2-3 months? What if I'm a nut who likes to change PDA's every 3-4 months? What, you mean I have to show you proof that I switched? Isn't the fact that I have the activation card proof enough? I don't know too many people who pay $269 for a product and let other people use the activation codes.

Avoid them at all costs. You will regret your purchase if you change devices frequently.

One other problem with this product...out of the box it is not 100% compatible with Windows Mobile 5 devices (most of the new Axims are WM5. You really have to break your back to install on these devices.

Customer Review: Now is the time to Upgrade. 2000 or XP2 PRO?
Running Windows 95 and that means Windows 98 is illegal in your country and you are in the land of needing a new computer fast, feeling that you might have a box that looks like it is running windows 3.1 and to be honest now is your chance to move to Windows 2000 for a more solid operating system. Even NT users found more stability in Windows 2000, 98 users mostly gamers or downloaders, seeing the blue screen of death often, while Win 2K users doing something a little more software intensive like multimedia, graphics and servers that 98 could not manage. So came the day of the duel-processor, having an NT Dual 500mhz, upgrading to Win2K and you still had a fast machine, 64mb and 128mb games cards never really impressing you that much to get a better machine, a games console maybe cheaper and better, XP a little slow for you and besides, 2K was compatible with nearly everything and you could duel boot linux for fun. The only reason to buy a computer between the release of XP and now was if you did not have one and even then plenty of second hand units going around.

Year: 2005
256mb graphics cards, LCD monitors on the cheap, DVD-R media, Broadband, now is the time to upgrade your machine. AMD have some nice chips but the hyperthreading Intel P4 3.0GHz is a killer chip. 1GB of RAM, no problem. A pimpin' fast graphics card and you have a machine that can play Half-Life 2 on full resolution. The best games of the 21st century were released before Christmas this year, with 2005 bringing lots more to come. Broadband on the increase, DVD-R media and life might get less expensive if you are into computers and certainly a whole pile better.

Why not Linux? Well XP2 has the games and Linux not, so we can stop there. For speed on an OS, well Linux is a much faster, but XP2 is not bad on a system with half the ram of the above and a 1 GHz processor. If you are programming or doing fundamental computer work then do check out Linux because it might be what you need and learning Linux is like DOS with a bit of windows with all the free fundamental software you could want. Why not Apple? Well the same as above, but you have a better selection of stuff and to be honest multimedia applications work well on an apple, and why shouldn't they since Apple is industry standard for that kind of design work, so what does XP2 have to offer?

Obviously stability (not to be confused with security). XP2 is a very stable operating system. It is more stable than Windows 2000. For that reason, I made the upgrade. I have not found XP2 doing much annoying or something that I could not fix with Google. Installing is a big deal because you need Internet for verification; however it is fast on a high end system. There are obvious things you must do after you install it like download Firefox and use it instead of IE and try to use realplayer instead of mediaplayer, use Microsoft's AntiSpyware, don't use the firewall, use zonelarm free instead, spend on a good anti-virus software package, turn off the preview pane in Internet Outlook mail or try to find a free mail browser, make sure you get all the latest windows updates, careful what you put into your machine or extract, careful what mail you open, change passwords every week, and you can achieve a secure on-line machine that can do anything most computers can do right now with a company that has admitted that it has a security problem that will be addressed with future updates, but overall one should be impressed with the OS for stability, not speed or security, but for not crashing, as long as there are no hardware configuration conflicts, that do happen, get someone else to build your machine and blame them when it doesn't come together (and it wont come together because things are now cutting edge so get it done elsewhere; if your task bar hangs this is because of routers or USB hubs that are not compatible). The machine like the above is a 5 star experience but God help those who don't address security issues the moment they go on-line with it which is a bit like just driving your car off a cliff. Expect to loose everything to a virus and have your address details stolen with all your VISA card info.

XP2 PRO is 5 stars if you visit a place on the web called Gibson research incorporated, a highly respected individual in the security community who developed a way that people can test the vulnerability of their PC on-line. He developed a series of a security fixes for XP1 and XP2 problems. Bookmark that page and use it to have a somewhat secure and stable XP2.

Also remember, forget the HOME EDITION, go PRO.
Customer Review: A huge improvement.
This is a little late now that 2003 is coming out. However, for people wondering, this is a rock solid OS. Blue Screens of Death are rare now. It is plug and play so installs are easy! Microsoft is well on the road to providing a decent OS. Mind you this is comming from a person who is not a fan of the company.

Now this is not a gaming OS! If you have games that were written for 98, the probably will not work or will work badly! If you program, you can't go wrong! It is a huge improvement over NT.

However, with all things, there are somethings that you have to do! Get the service packs and the hot fixes! Also, there are some extra stuff that gets installed such as the media player. Microsoft hid the uninstaller in the original release. IF you get Service Pack 4, it will correct that..

This is worthwhile just to get rid of BSODs and if you have a laptop running NT, you have to change over! However, XP it probably a better choice!

Customer Review: Great bunch of apps at the right price
I was pretty excited as soon as I heard about this product and got it right away.

Audio Hijack - works perfectly as advertised. I've been using this to record music from VH1.com to fill my library and I figured out also how to use it to record the soundtrack from music DVDs and from iTunes. It's brain dead easy to use and the quality is good.

MusicMixer - after a pretty lengthy amount of time it had scanned my library. I have about 5000 songs and it took over 4 days. But it was worth the wait - it definitely makes some smart choices and groups songs that sound good together.

Spin Doctor - I haven't tried this one yet - but my father has a bunch of stuff he's hounding me to try it out with. Seems like a good addition.

iPodder - I like this one. Fits really well with iTunes and there's a ton of interesting stuff to fill my commute time now.

Speech software - I don't really have a need for this one and the voices are a bit corny - although there's a coupon on the disc for better voices from another company.

All in all I'm happy with this purchase. Unlike the previous reviewer who seems to have a personal vendetta against the music industry I'll focus on this product. Roxio certainly does not hide that these are products that have been available for a while from other developers - what Roxio brings together is 5 great apps for the right price. The Mixer is $30 by itself. AudioHijack is $16. iPodder is $24. Speech is $16. None of them are free - contrary to what the previous reviewer says. If you bought them all separetly you'd spend alot more - so even if you only use a few of the apps you're coming out ahead.

Ignore the crazies and focus on the software and you won't be disappointed. It really does make your iPod better.
Customer Review: 2.5 stars for 2 1/2 good apps. Cool, but Music Magic Mixer is disabled.
When I heard that Roxio was making this software suite, I was thrilled and the reviews were great. If you actually buy your music from iTunes, though, those songs won't show up in the mix. Music Magic Mixer won't read them because they're in proprietary formats. This app would be much cooler if Apple hadn't caved in to the music industry. If you find a workaround for the copy protection, you're set for a great app that rediscovers your music collection for you. But that's illegal.

Since Podcasts are built into iTunes now, iPodder X is basically pointless, and the speech app isn't any better than TextEdit's speech function. But CD Spin Doctor is a cool app, and Audio Hijack has its obvious uses. I've been transferring music from a minidisc collection I naively built a few years ago to my Mac and Spin Doctor works great. If you only want one of these apps, though, you can just pick them up from one of the original developers for 25 bucks or so, but that's not much of a savings, so you might as well buy this. Customer Review: failure to consider likely purchasers
don't buy this yet. it's harder than heck to install--still trying to get it installed after 3 shots with everything else turned off-- and it has lots of foreign locations for you to designate your home location, but not much good for cities over 100,000 in the US. Want to install in Russia or Kazaksta or Ghana or Egypt or Peru (Talara Peru for example) or Argentina, go right ahead. But, for example, no locations in Indiana US such as Gary, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Terre Haute, Evansville, so they've left out a lot of people, but you can install in Evora in Portugal and Horsens in Denmark (nothing personal, I just wonder how may purchasers there may be in Evora (55,000) or Horsens (55,000), versus Fort Wayne (220,000)or South Bend (110,000+ 50,000 in next city) or Evansville (120,000). Also, registration of the product is difficult. So US purchasers, be aware that this is not necessarily US-friendly and it is not easy to install, as the US locations seem to be picked sort of at random. I had hoped for better understanding of their likely customer base. Maybe they are looking up into the skies instead of at who might likely buy their stuff. I have purchased earlier versions of this software and was hoping for an improvement.

Customer Review: No fun
This game is so heavily weighted toward east and west that it's no fun to play. It's rare that north and south even get a bidable hand. And north uses a bidding system that defies understanding, such as opening in 2 of a suit with 7 points and a five card suit. Get the picture?
Customer Review: What a disappointment!
As an intermediate bridge plater I was hoping that this CD would help to improve my game. Unfortunately, it is not a very good learning tool. I have found the following to be disappointing features and am actively looking for an alternate CD:
- too many layers/clicks to begin and exit game
- opponents are programmed to to make flawed/confusing (sometimes bizarre) bids. This can be very frustrating, particulary when there is no way to clarifiy what the bid is indicating. A help button would be helpful.
- there is no may to undo an action...so if your mouse moves slightly when you are clicking,you can accidently bid something you didn't intend to bid (e.g. 7 C,D,H,S or NT instead of passing) or playing a card you didn't intend to play.
- if I am unhappy with the way I played a hand, I would like to be able to replay it... this is not possible with this CD

I ordered this software for use converting and processing RAW files from my Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D. Unfortunately, the version shipped and received-- v. 1.0-- does NOT support this camera. A newer version-- v.1.1-- does, but there is no way to specify here that you want the updated one. (It WILL, however, support the 7D). So I have to return it...

Customer Review: You get what you pay for
If you're a Unix/Linux network engineer, you won't have as much trouble using this software. Otherwise, forget about it. It doesn't install by itself the way Windows does and you have to create your own boot diskette using DOS. Once installed, the OS won't quite recognize your system, its monitor or your peripherals. I bought it from a reseller (Book Expert) for its novelty value on a second HD but quickly discovered how kludgy it was and reformatted it as a Windows data drive. If you buy from a reseller, you won't get the original packaging. Instead, you'll find 3 or 4 homemade CDRs from a free download. Get XP Pro or wait for Vista, instead. Click Here For More Info

Customer Review: Not all media!
I bought this product with the intent of using it to backup my files to my HP CD writer. No where does it indicate that this is not recommended. Now that I am using it, I find my computer constantly locking up or slowing down. Then it cannot save some files, even though I have excluded them from the backup, it still tries to back them up and every 2 minutes I get 2 error messages indicating that these files cannot be backed up. It is totally frustrating. If you plan to use this with a CD Write, think again.

My first line of thought is to use a tape backup, but what if you don't have one? What if like myself all you have is a zip drive, then what? V Communications may have your answer.

This software is actually made by Official Software, LLC (not Enteractive, Inc. as shown in the product page). It uses an interactive interviewing function to step you through the trademark process. The function selects the correct forms that you need, and identifies the classification under which you need to file and lets you know what needs to be included in the submission package.

Provided are editable forms from the USPTO, and advice (also from USPTO) for filling in the forms. As you fill in the forms using the interactive interview process you'll be building your submission package. The program also does online searches to ensure that your trademark is available. However, I strongly encourage you to not submit the completed package that the program builds without first consulting with an attorney who practices IP law.
